To hear some politicians talk, you'd thinking turning a profit was a bad thing, AWB Don Brunell writes in his weekly column.
In their view, anyone who makes money should be taxed and regulated to death.
In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.
"Our economy is the best in the world because we can take a chance and start a business, whether it's kids selling lemonade or Boeing delivering a 747," Brunell writes.
Profits also allow companies to do good things, from underwriting the U.S. Olympic team to establishing charitable foundations.
Instead of punishing American success through regulations and higher taxes, government should look for ways to help businesses compete, he writes.
