Joined by representative of a dozen other business organizations, AWB has written legislators to oppose HB 3202 and SB 6784, which would change the state's real property development vesting laws. (Here's a copy of the letter to Senate members.)
The letter identifies three critical concerns. The legislation
... would have a negative impact on an already struggling real estate market, stifle current affordable housing goals and have a dampening effect on our states economy.
... would undo years of regulatory reform and is inconsistent with other land use laws including the Growth Management Act.
[And] Washington's courts have held that the Vested Rights Doctrine is a fundamental due process right based on our Constitution. It is not a "loophole" or "exception" as proponents of the bill claim.
